ME-L thanked the Committee and all members who hosted during the recent French visit which was a great success. She wanted to particularly thank the past Mayor Cllr Robert Lee and Ann Lee for all their effort in organising the final day and night’s entertainment which was a great send off for our guests. She also thanked Keith Morgan for providing framed photos of Porthcawl for our visitors at his own expense and a slide show on the Friday night and also Erica Beynon for the Saturday musical concert. She added that the return visit will probably be 24-29 August 2018. She thanked everyone for their fundraising efforts throughout the year particularly Ivor, Angela and Melanie for the very successful craft fair in November.
Mary also stressed that she would be standing down as Chairman owing to other commitments but would be happy to continue as Social Secretary and Vice Chairman.
BL reported that we currently have a surplus of £1789.68 and distributed the balance sheet. The recent visit has cost £1616 which is less than normal. He thanked the Committee for their fundraising efforts, particularly with respect to the raffle. He also thanked Andrew Singer for auditing the accounts. RL thanked BL for all his efforts
DB reported that we currently have 91 memberships of which only 2 corporate members have not paid their subs. He stressed that only 21 members actually pay by Standing Order. An increase in this number would make his job much easier. He thanked RL for persuading people to become corporate members. The target remains 100 members and it would be great if we could attract more young families. Our subs have remained the same since 1999 and he would not wish to see them changed. He stressed that we need to encourage members to join the T’Winners club when they pay their subs.
Social Secretary’s Report:
ME-L reported that there are events coming up at Pencoed Town Twinning Association and gave details. She also stated that the Committee thought it may be a good idea to have French coffee mornings on a regular basis. More details from MW.
Schools and Town Twinning Liaison:
MW reported that shields were awarded to the best linguist at St. Clares School and Porthcawl Comprehensive School. She told us that a meeting had just taken place with several members and it had been suggested that we have a stall at school fairs in order to promote the Association and increase membership.
